FEATURES:
22 Mega Pixel CCD
The 36mm x 48mm Dalsa CCD imaging sensor contains 22 million active pixels (total 4008h x 5344v). The 14 bit A/D (Analog to Digital) conversion records color information as 12-bit per color channel, providing exceptional true-to-life color accuracy.
ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit)
Data transfer from the Dalsa CCD sensor is processed in real- time with its exclusively designed Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). The advantage to the photographer is that image data captured from the sensor is optimized for fast performance. With a frame capture rate of 1.5 fps, it?s the fastest 22 Mega pixel digital Medium format camera in the industry.
File Format
Images are captured in Mamiya RAW format, JPEG or both RAW and JPEG. Three levels of image quality alone with image size are easily selectable through the digital back?s intuitive built-in software menus.
Removable Low-Pass Filter
Utilizing an innovative cartridge type removable Low-Pass filter (optional) the Mamiya ZD digital back offers photographers a choice, depending on shooting conditions, whether to use the filter or not.
Dual Storage Card Slots
The Mamiya ZD provides card slots for both Compact Flash (CF) and Secure Data (SD). Approximately 100 images in Mamiya RAW format can be stored onto a 4GB CF card.
Mamiya Digital Photo Studio
Simple yet powerful Digital Photo Studio software provides the prefect blend of image capture, processing and editing for both MAC and Windows based computers. When connected to a computer via a 4-pin FireWire® (IEEE1394) cable, many of the functions of the Mamiya ZD digital back can be operated from a computer.
Lenses
Mamiya lenses are designed and built for today’s foremost photographers who expect their equipment to provide both outstanding and distinctive results.
Engineers at Mamiya have developed rigorous performance criteria for each lens design. No detail is overlooked. No test is omitted. The goal is technical perfection…The result is a series of lenses which have set the new world-standard of performance. Each lens element is precisely polished and coated using Mamiya’s proprietary multi-coating process to increase light transmission, dramatically reduce flare, ensure crisp, clean whites and vibrant, yet natural colors. Mamiya engineers and inspectors test continuously as the lens is assembled to insure flawless quality. The result is a lens designed so carefully, built so meticulously, that it consistently renders extraordinary performance.

Among today’s community of world famous photographers, Mamiya lenses have established themselves as the new benchmark by which others are measured.
AF 80mm f/2.8
With an angle of view of 47 degrees, this lens is equivalent to a 50mm lens in 35mm format. This is the standard lens for the format, with a field of view approximating natural human sight. It is the most general-purpose lens in the series, and works well in various applications for close or distant subjects. Packing high performance into a compact, lightweight configuration, it is well corrected for distortion, producing a natural, well-balanced image.

AF 35mm f/3.5
Using 120/220 film, the 90° angle of view is equivalent to an ultra-wide angle 22mm focal length (compared to 35mm format) and for digital capture it acts as a normal/wide angle lens. This state-of-the-art lens design maintains high contrast and resolution continuously from infinity focus to the 13.75? minimum focusing distance. The characteristic deep depth of field will be an advantage for many applications, including landscape, group and documentary photography. Each lens element is precisely polished and coated using Mamiya?s proprietary multi-coating process to increase light transmission, dramatically reduce flare, and ensure crisp clean whites and vibrant, yet natural colors. An independent manual focus/autofocus setting ring is located on the lens for quick changes in and out of autofocus while maintaining a natural camera balance.

Dear Sir,
What is the crop factor of ZD? I seem to remember reading it somewhere was 1.16x, can you confirm that please?
I am a ZD owner, I use my ZD along side with my Canon 1DS Mark ll and Nikon D2X, in comparison the ZD is very slow, both in writing to the card and AF.
The slower ZD camera does make me take a step back and look at the shot more carefully. Photography is no longer a hurry click of the shutter but is a serious deliberation of the Mamiya finest optical lens.
I must say that Mamiya do not do much in marketing it’s ZD, because
Hasselblad and Phase One P39 nearly had my money owing to their clever advertisings and generated the “must have” for the “top photographer”.
I cannot help but think that Mamiya was let down by Dalsa by not offering them the 39 mbite chip.
Dalsa certainly has the market worked out, All class A chips (money) to Phase One and Hasselblad owners and all class B chips (money) to Mamiya ZD owners.
yours truly,
Barry Zee
