Nepal has become a Federal Democratic Republic from May 28, 2008 (15 Jeth 2065) after the Constituent Assembly overwhelmingly voted for abolition of the country’s 240-year-old monarchy. Proposal tabled by the government for implementation of a republic has been passed as 560 members out of 564 present voted in favor of the proposal and 4 against on late Wednesday night at 2320 hours. more »

The Constituent Assembly (CA) members were sworn in amid a ceremony on Tuesday (May 27, 2008) at the Birendra International Convention Center (BICC) in Kathmandu.
Ram Sheela Thakur, 30, CA member from Raghunathpur-8 of Mahottari also sworn in at BICC. Ramsheela – a barber by profession since childhood – said that she will continue her job as a barber though she ramains CA member until next general election. She represents Nepal Communist Party (UNITED). more »

Veteran singer Prem Dhoj Pradhan mesmerized the audience with his voice, when he rendered 18 of his evergreen songs in the Paleti Series at Nepalaya’s R-Shala. The evening started with “Maya Namara Mayalu” which happens to be the first recorded song of the maestro. Pradhan, 72 sounded amazingly vibrant and energetic while singing as his fingers floated on the keys of the harmonium. more »
