Chhath Festival
The second day (Friday Nov 16, 2007) of the Chhath festival was observed with great fervour at various places in Nepal, with women worshipping the setting sun and offering arghas. Thousands of devotees gathered on the banks of the river and ponds to pay respects to the Sun God. Special prayers were conducted for the welfare and prosperity of their families. The festival is celebrated six days after Dipawali. It is especially significant for married women. They observe a two-day fast and offer prayers while keeping almost three-quarters of their body immersed in water for two hours. The Chhath festival ends with final prayers on Saturday morning at sunrise.

The fasting women devotees offered arghas to the setting sun at nearby ponds and rivers, also singing folk and devotional songs in the praise of the “Chhathi Mata”.

This festival is considered a symbol of cleanliness, devotion and cordial relationship and goodwill among people. It is the time devotees worship the sun, which has been illuminating the whole earth and providing light to all the creatures in the world. According to history, the celebration is believed to have begun from the time of Dwapar Yuga (era), when the five Pandavs, while in exile in the forest, had worshipped the sun, asking for victory in the Mahabharat war.

Dear falano and friends, Namaste.
Hindu religion has great strength, unity, friendship and peace that is always infront of you. You just feel great proud and imagine and calculate that billions of people actively participate in Dashain, Tihar and this CHHAT festival. We can divert this friendship force to make changes in the ecomomy of Nepal and peace in our Motherland. We absolutely do not need so many political parties, and so called leaders to make our nation, but we need CULTURAL unity that taught and teaching to be closer and honest to each Nepali in the world and can only bring new changes in Nepal.
Hindu religion never speaks against any religion and culture because it is already purified and well developed religion that peacefully ties billions of people and advocate for peace in the world.
Thank you Phalano.

A good reminder of home town and childhood! Who can forget the buzz the Chhat used to bring ..and still it does ..first the beginning of Chhat with gathering around the Ghaat and all the Deeya(lights). .Remarkable scene of offerings to the Sun God i.e. varieties of sweets and fruits ,then the Sun sets and a long wait begins for next morning. Before the Sun rises..the spectacular gathering around the Ghaat and people standing in water in soaked cloth….

We all are Nepali..it’s our Nepal…Do not know why freaking, corrupt, Selfish, Crual, illitrate people make agenda and Make innocient Nepali suffer from Voilance dividing, we all Nepali as madashi and Padahi…Why we are divided, our country, motherland is so beautiful we can share it….Like Prithivi Narayan Said ” Char jath, chatish bari ” ..Nepal is that..we can share it, love it, grow it, devlope it, so we don’t suffer from poverty, unimploiment, rather than distroing Nepal..strike, The samefull and pitfull thing…pathatic thing “killing each other should be stop immeditely…just look at the picture …it’s nepal…it’s all nepali sound…we just have to speak together…and Poltician remember ” Please, remember you are there to help and devlope our country, we are watching you, we are not stupid. we can judge you decision, now we want our country to devlop..like bob marly says ” you can fool people some time, not all the time” someday we all Nepali will gather together, we will take you out, coz as a normal Nepali citizen, Nepal is my motherland, and I can’t let you distroy, and it’s our voice, and it’s all Nepali voice, WE LOVE NEPAL…WE CAN JUDGE BEING OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY WE ALWAYS CHECK THIS SIDE AND WRITE…IT SHOWS OUR LOVE…AND PLEASE RESOLVE ALL THIS BAD HABID OF DIVIDING AND LET’S WORK TOGETHER ..MAKE OUR MOTHERLAND BEST IN THE WORLD

Great pictures telling a beautiful story. This is the real Nepal that the Nepali and visitors love. As long as the people hold this in their hearts, they will overcome all the problems they now have. Politicians and political parties need to work together to bring a better life for their people and not just for themselves. Always remember that the majority of the people will decide the future eventually even if it takes a long time. Good luck to Nepal and all Nepali.

Do not include email address and web URL in your message… PHALANO.com holds the right to moderate your comments.
