BhaiTika in Tihar
By Rajesh KC
Bhaitika, the last and the main day of Tihar with much enthusiasm on Sunday. On this day sisters pray to Yamraja, the god of death, for their brother’s longevity and prosperity. According to the Hindu myths, the Goddess of fortune Laxmi offered bhai-tika to King Bali during noon, so the time is most auspicious for the tika. Those who do not have their own brothers or sisters visited the temple of Yamleswhor Mahadev in Ranipokhari. The temple is open to the public only once a year on this particular day.
