Aye !!! Along with other MPs, CPN-UML MP Sushila Nepal raises her hand to endorse the historic proposal on women’s rights in parliament on Tuesday (May30, 2006). The House of Representatives unanimously endorsed a landmark proposal on women’s rights that allows citizenship through the mother’s name. The House also endorsed 33 percent reservation for women in all state machineries, among other things. The ‘motion of public importance’ was presented by CPN (UML) MP Vidya Devi Bhandari on Monday.

This was the first time I got an opportunity to capture moments inside parliament.

The House was supposed to start at 1400 hours.

Mr Punctual (Madhav Kumar Nepal) arrived at 1355 hours

At 1412: UML parliamentarians chat as the House proceedings is delayed.

A 1936 painting by Balakrishna Sama picturising a Rana hunting safari in Bardaha, 1932.

At 1430: Many members still haven™t turned up. On the way, maybe.

Red carpets, well carved pillars and beautiful paintings- inside the parliament.

Parliament house was actually built during Rana regime as entertaintment theatre. Shree Teen Ranas, as they were titled, used to watch Mujra dance and watch performance through the window inside the theatre.

At 1436: Important house activity “ fiddling with the microphones!

At 1442: Please wake me up when the house starts functioning “ a member of the audience.

Please wake me up too!- an MP

Brass lions are installed near the Royal chair.

At 1456: Let’s take a look at today’s news. MPs reading newspapers as they wait for the House to begin proceedings.

At 1556: The Speaker of the House of Representatives Subhas Nemang finally arrives.

At 1602: The House starts

An MP recounts how he was held at gun-point and threatened by vigilantes near Koteshwor the other night.

Excuse me please!… It’s just a nap-wake me if it™s important.

CPN-UML MP surrounded by microphones

Who’s this snoring? Let me put on my glasses first.

Kharrrrrrrrr…

Home Minister assures MPs of law and order.

Can I also close my eyes for a while? Don™t worry my ears are open.

I can™t understand why no one’s bothered to wake me up?

Can I use your shoulders to rest my weary head awhile, please?

Psst… psst…hey buddy, wake up!…There’s a camera pointed at us.

Audience, listening attentively to the MPs.

CPN (UML) MP Vidya Devi Bhandari presenting the ˜motion of public importance™.

NC (D) MP Narayan Prasad Saud supports the landmark proposal on women™s rights.

Aye !!…. voting for the proposal-Citizenship through mother™s name.

Oh, really?

Thank you… See you tomorrow!

    Rajesh G…,
u did a great job in ur career this time too, n i surely watched ur photos always in kantipur n now in web, i really appreciate ur courage n boldness doing all these things………
n to comment more on these photos, i m now compelled to think that we nepalese have been in dark that we were feeding all those lazy worms n suking leeches all these days by our own sweat & blood. Now, the parliament meeetings should be recorded so that we can know the seriousness of the MPs towards nepal. This will help alll nepalese to elect the appropriate candidate , at least throw away bad ones.

We prefer our politcians to inside the so called “Parlimentary Hall” at least we know they are sleeping rather than transferring money from the goverment account to their name and their family members. No wonder why the previous regimn had to close the parlimentary just becasue of there is ghost in that building.
Anyway have a good night and sweet dreams oh by the way i know what they will dream of “India taking over our country”
    Bye.

its one of the great work …to inform n show the general people about the ongoing processes in the parliament n the nature of mps..who cannot stand awake when house is running….what people can aspect from such mps..and what he has in his head about country n the people whom he is responsible….the head of house should panalise such nature of mps…or should quit the seat for young generation…

thanks a lot to provide such photos of parliament….. even my friends who do not like to hear about politics really enjoyed it……. in my view, it is due to this only we nepalese are unable to have development in our country…. while looking it, i thought about the proverb “i want to be governed by a lion rather then the thousand rats”. its shows that the members of parliment are acting like the rat…. they have no tention regarding the problem of nepalese…….. they even dont have any repect to time……. all these members should be kicked out from parliament….. how these people are recieving salary from goverment… dont they really feel shy?????????….
    thanks once again

It™s really sad to see such scenarios unfolding in the parliament, which is actually supposed to be a place where a country™s future is mapped, ideas are shared and discussed and these so called “leaders” of our country are a disaster for our nation. What our country needs today is some visionary leaders who are young, innovative and are actually able to lead a nation and be able to bring some radical changes in our economy and development. It™s time for Nepal to have some REAL leaders: who can act and stir a nation to a direction of a safer and an affluent tomorrow.

To all the nepali politicians who love nepal i want to request them to take all the political consequences going through in nepal seriously. ploitics is not done among the politicians butr is done for the well beings of the people of that country.
when all the people of nepal want to have republican government then why do you feel like as if you are giving something out of your pockets.
Do what the people of nepal like to do???
Be what ever the people like you to be???
Be the good politicians. i think all the politicians at this moments has forgotten the marma and desire of the people expressed during the jana andolan. There is something above the self that is nation and people.
If you dont do today you will never be able to do it tomorrow. Do it today and creat the history. I know and trust Girija Prasad Koiral has that power and feelings of the people of nepal and i know he would create the history of nepal by declaring the republic before the election ending the unconstitutional, aristocratic and tyranny monarchy in nepal.
YOu better look sometime backward so that you can find the clear vision for future. Do learn from past and design the map for future. When you think you need us we are always ready to do so. i promise that.
You have the power and wills. You have the support of the people and the entire world. You have the time. what you dont have now???
    just do it right now.
create the history that we like.
    mero nepal

when there are problems there are also solution. now our country is going through the toughest moment in the history like othere countries which already passed that situation. till now our ways of politics and the vision for our future is narrow. it is all personal i dont criticize any one. it is all the ability of the person to run the nation. now we need the good person to run the nation. the problems is not that chronic that we cant solve that. just change your traditional ways of politics. when we have two neighbours we should be able to take the help of both. talking about the petrolium and electricity what i want to say is that we dont need 50000 mega watt of electricity as visioned by the maoist but keep repairing what we have. petrolium price is high every where. so try to cope the price of international standard. atleast we will not have shortage in the country. i want to tell the people protesting the price that there are no options, in this istuation we need to calm down. the country like ours have many options like the hydro electricity , wind mill for energywhich we need to explore. petroliuma ad coal has no future. i dont think it will support the demand of the world for more than 10 years. any way we have to search the other possible options. why are we doing delay in searching such technology. we have rivers that will support us for thusands of years. we have mountains that will make us pride. that time we will never have to beg for any nation for help. we will be the proudest of all when all other countries would be having loadsheding we will have light everywhere and anytime.
